2009 Palm Pre Developer’s Conference Coming to Dallas!

LiveWire Hosting (livewirehosting.com) and Improving Enterprises (improvingenterprises.com) are proud to announce that the 2009 Palm Pre Developer’s Conference or “preDevCamp” will be held in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, August 8th!

Register now for the Dallas area preDevCamp by sending your name, email address, and company name to pred...@livewirehosting.com.

Palm has released the SDK (source development kit) for their brand new cell phone, the Pre (referred to by many as “The real iPhone Killer”) and Palm’s new operating system, WebOS. The Palm Pre Developer’s Conference is a time for developers and programming enthusiasts to learn about these exciting new products from Palm! There will be a webcast from Mitch Allen, Palm CTO, on the basics of programming for WebOS and he will go through what is needed to begin developing your first app in a test environment.

The conference will also host several guest speakers including attorney Carl Bruce, from Fish & Richardson P.C. who will discuss the Palm Beta App Catalog Agreement, the differences between various open source licenses and intellectual property rights. Also presenting will be Mark Myers, President and CEO of Intrinsic Technology Partners Inc. who will be discussing business aspects of making apps for the Palm App Catalog and what businesses are looking for when purchasing and using applications.

The event will also be showing how to “root” the Palm Pre and how to install dropbear (ssh server and client) and openssh SFTP server on a Palm Pre. We will also be showing everyone how to get free tethering using 2 different methods! (NOTE: we do not condone any operation of the device that is against Sprint’s Terms of Service Agreement!)

There will be free food and snacks for everyone who attends! Anyone can attend and registration is free!

preDevCamp Dallas Meeting Location Confirmed and More!

Hey everybody,

Improving Enterprises (improvingenterprises.com) has agreed to host the event! Improving Enterprises is located here: http://tinyurl.com/mfu4ex

The convention will take place on August 8th and sign-in will be at 8:30am and the event will start at 9am.

For the  convention we need some people to present what they have been working on, this will be a great way for you to receive feedback on your app and teach others the inner working of the Palm Pre! Please message me with your name and what you will be presenting so I can add you to the agenda. Your presentation should last about 20-30 minutes.

We need as many people to participate as possible, so please sign up to present!

If you have any ideas for what you want to do during the convention please email me! I will see if we should add it to the agenda for the convention.

After I have completed the agenda and the plan is set I will update everyone with the specifics.

On a side note, I need to get an idea of how many people have experience programming in JavaScript.  Please email me just saying  how familiar you are with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and tell me if you would like to have a time set for an introduction to JavaScript and the Mojo SDK. I will use this information when creating the agenda.

If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to email me at pred...@livewirehosting.com!

Best regards,
Daniel Myers

Local preDevCamp Organizer

PreDevCamp Meeting Location for Dallas

Hey everyone, I just got appointed as the organizer for Dallas. I’m trying to see if I can reserve a room at the UT Dallas School of Engineering Building for us all to meet in.

I have already met with the administrators there and I’m looking for a faculty member or professor to sponsor the event. It is required to have a sponsor in order to reserve a room.

I’ll keep everyone posted so stay tuned.

preDevCamp Is Go!

I just released a post on whurley.com entitled “Phone Warz: Revenge Of The Palm?” discussing how ever since I helped pull together iPhoneDevCamp with Raven Zachary and Chris Messina back in 06, Ive been hawking the other manufacturers looking for a legit challenge to the iPhones throne; secretly to have another event.

Anyway, I was discussing this whole scenario with @Giovanni and @DanCrumb this weekend, and we had quite an amusing round of what-ifs. We had so much fun bumpin our gums, we decided to up the ante. Today @Giovanni, @DanCrumb and I (@whurley) are launching preDevCamp 2009.

The event will be held in around 60 cities around the world exactly one week after the U.S. release of the Palm Pre. Since the phone is Linux+WebKit, development should be easy for us to share the love. Tell your friends. Invite your neighbors. Weve got satellite events lined up in over 30 cities around the world. If you want to enlist, visit the website and tell us your city. If theres not a leader in that city, then you just got promoted.
